How do you renovate your tennis court?

Tennis courts don't always stay in the same condition and, on average, spend around ten years in a state of disrepair. That's why renovation is so important, whatever the nature of the court surface.

Why is it essential to renovate a tennis court?

To ensure that you can continue to use your tennis court in the best possible conditions, it's important to look after it regularly. However, if maintenance has been poorly carried out, or has not been done for a long time, the tennis court will need to be renovated.

In reality, the tennis court surface may be worn prematurely, as it has not been maintained as it should have been.

When a tennis court is no longer in perfect condition for use, it becomes necessary to renovate it. The aim is to restore the tennis court to like-new condition.

The operation will have to be carried out with a certain method, adapted to the very nature of the tennis court surface. Renovation can be carried out on synthetic turf, porous asphalt or clay courts, for example.

How do you renovate your tennis court?

When the tennis court is really too damaged (irreversibly worn), it will have to be thoroughly renovated. In this extreme case, it will be essential to pour a new slab on top of the one to be replaced.

This type of renovation is usually carried out on honeycomb concrete tennis courts. The cost is generally in the region of 25,000 euros inc.

A natural clay pitch will require the removal of the original layer, which is no longer in good condition.

One court, on which synthetic turf has been laid, is to be renovated with the same surface.

To ensure that the renovation goes as smoothly as possible, we strongly recommend that you call in a professional who is used to renovating tennis courts.

How to renovate a tennis court

A tennis court can suffer various types of damage over time. Here's how to repair them.

Slab offset

Over time, the slabs will shift and the pitch will no longer be flat, making it dangerous for players (risk of falls, sprains, etc.).

What's more, offset slabs can even hinder tennis play itself by creating false bounces.

To achieve this, we'll sand the slabs concerned with a suitable sander, on which we'll sand with a diamond disc to remove the offset at the top.

The renovation will make the court flat again.

Cracks in the ground

In the case of cracks, each crack to be repaired will need to be high-pressure cleaned, so as not to leave any moss, seeds or other matter deep down.

The renovation itself will then require the use of several materials, in order to seal the crack and complete the renovation operation.

The material required to seal the crack is special tennis putty.

You'll need green putty for the green part, white for cracks on the lines and brown for cracks on the red part.

Holes on the tennis court

Repairing holes first requires high-pressure cleaning of the surface to be repaired.

The next step is to level the surface, using a special resin mixed with the porphyry grains that make up the porous surface. This mixture is used to fill each hole.

Renovate expansion joints between slabs

Over the years, expansion joints suffer. No matter what material they're made of, they need to be renovated.

The steps involved in renovating expansion joints are simple. The entire surface is high-pressure cleaned to remove plant debris and dust.

All joints to be replaced are then carefully removed. Next, a semi-liquid polyurethane elastomer, colored to match the color of the tiles, is applied with a cartridge spray gun for the finishing touch. This special elastomer is designed to resist expansion in summer and shrinkage in cold weather, so that it does its job properly between each tile.

Painting the pitch

Once these renovations have been completed, it's important to repaint the surface to prolong the life of your property.

A first coat of primer followed by 2 cross-coats of tennis paint are required.

Application is generally done with an airless spray gun. It is recommended that this operation be carried out by a professional.

All these tennis court renovations will help you enjoy your tennis court for a long time to come.
